When writing the text to go with my video for symposium ii, I used the phrase:
layering the inherent visual tones to create a complex visual chord; balancing chromaticism with disconnected neighbouring tones
The use of “visual chord” was an interesting phrase. In music, notes are played simultaneously to make a harmonious (or not!) chord. In my visual world, I am trying to achieve something similar, but with colors… hence “visual chord”.
As this is a bridge between art and music, and my knowledge of music terminology is limited, I had a conversation about it with my sister-in-law (a textile artist and, more importantly for this, a classically trained opera singer)…
In theory the scrawled notes will be turned into something useful.
