The Renwick Gallery in Washington DC was the first building designed expressly as an art museum. Following a two-year renovation it has recently re-opened, and to celebrate this a temporary exposition, WONDER, is on and I was fortunate enough to see it.
The space has been taken over by nine contemporary artists who have created site-specific installations, and the following are the order in which I saw them.
Welcome to the Renwick
Tara Donovan — Untitled
Gabriel Dawe — Plexus A1
Patrick Dougherty — Shindig
Janet Echelman — 1.8
John Grade — Middle Fork (Cascades)
Maya Lin — Folding the Chesapeake
Chakaia Booker — ANONYMOUS DONOR
Jennifer Angus — In the Midnight Garden
Leo Villareal — Volume (Renwick)
