An attempt to scan raffia and wool and then turn these into artistic pens in Illustrator.

I hated the image when I made it: the clearly artificial nature; the repeat pattern; the flatness, i.e. lack of “depth” which some strategic shading and opacity might achieve.

Update: A day later, I’m warming to it.

There is a lot to make the simulation better. But, in doing so, will something be “lost”: the obviously repetitive nature in the yellow field looks like bricks.
