I wanted to explore different types of “third space”, and for this piece a pseudo-random encounter — in contrast to the deliberate and geometric one in fiber 12 — was called for. Perhaps because I had spent some time editing the narration for my video for the Mid Point Review that I kept coming back to the idea of “waveforms”. Therefore, I took a work from the narration, isolated then normalized it, and used the resulting waveform for inspiration.
When making this piece, the “waveform” was temporarily fixed to the canvas and I used this as a guide when placing the dividing line. Some interpretation was applied, and the waveform treated as a source of inspiration rather than as a literal cartoon during the creation.
